About Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport
Downtown Airport, the first airport founded in Kansas City of the USA, was opened to flights in 1927. Due to the natural disasters that occurred in the region during 1950s, renewal activities were carried out in the airport, which was heavily damaged. After a decision was made by the local authorities on founding a new airport in the region in 1972, the general flights in Downtown Airport were gradually stopped. There is a museum, National Airline History Museum, in the airport which has great significance for the aviation history of the USA. Today, Downtown Airport only hosts corporate and private flights.
