Salalah, which is located in the south of Oman, is situated on the coast of the Arabian Sea. Salalah, which was once one of the main source of the frankincense trees, is the historical center of Dhofar. There are flights to the capital Muscat and gulf countries from Salalah Airport in the city which has also a port in Raysut in the southwest. While hot desert climate is effective in the city, there is a very cloudy and a little rainy weather in July and August.

Because of the monsoon climate, some vegetables and fruits like coconut can be grown in the city. As in many other countries on the Arabian Peninsula, there are many expatriate communities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India. The majority of the Salalah population live according to the Sunni sect of Islam and Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs are among the other groups living in the region.
