About Sanliurfa
Situated in Turkey's Southeastern region, the city of Urfa or "Sanliurfa" as it is sometimes known, has a population of nearly 1.8 million.
As in other landlocked cities of southern Anatolia, the climate is continental with hot and dry summers and cold winters. It is useful to know and be prepared for the large differences between day and night temperatures.
Şanlıurfa is also known as the City of Prophets, as Abraham, Job, Jacob and Moses have all suposedly either lived here or visited the city. The Pool of Sacred Fish (Balıklıgöl), where, according to the legend, Abraham was thrown into a fire which turned into water is the most touristic place in the city. Other places of interest are the Nabu Ayoub Cave, Harran Houses and Sakib Pavillion. You can take a boat tour in Halfeti, where a part of the history is submerged under the waters of the dam. We suggest you try Urfa kebab and çiğ köfte (raw meatballs).
Apart from the central district, Şanlıurfa has 10 districts such as Harran, Ceylanpınar, Suruç, and Siverek. You can reach the city by air via the Şanlıurfa GAP Airport, or by road, and rail.
